You're invited to an art and cheese night at San Juan Island Cheese! This Friday June 26th 4pm-6pm, stop by San Juan Island Cheese to see the work of Doug McIntosh on display, represented by WaterWorks Gallery.

San Juan Island Cheese and WaterWorks Gallery are working together to provide an exciting array of flavors for your palate and colors for your visual delight. Artist Doug McIntosh, based in southern Oregon, has shot his images all over the Northwest at marinas, boatyards and ports. His interest lies in the color and details of these places; the fiberglass of a boat mold before painting, a decaying wood walkway, and an old steel hull before refurbishing and painting. Doug creates this body of work photographically then manipulates the image using technology to produce an archival pigment print which he then mounts on a wood panel substrate and applies a resin coating on the final work.

Over the next couple of months, feast your eyes on the impressive artwork from Waterworks Gallery while you enjoy the delicious fare at San Juan Island Cheese.

In 1978 traditional art training led Doug McIntosh to his first public showing in a local museum in Brigham City, Utah, at the age of twelve. Initially, drawing and painting were his language of personal expression. At the age of eighteen, his artistic focus was forever changed when he took a Nikon SLR camera to capture images of Europe while studying abroad. After Europe Doug found exciting possibilities of communicating his artistic style and vision through photography. Doug McIntosh was awarded numerous art scholarships and was president of the Student Photography Club, as he was earning a BFA and a Minor in Communications from Brigham Young University. While studying and working for the university, Doug was drawn to the possibilities of mixing photographic and other art mediums together for a greater range of artistic expression. His first show was a one man show at the highly renowned Springville Museum of Art.

His drive for expression led him to the invention and use of different processes, like a technique he calls “chemical paintings”. Today’s technology opens up exciting new ways to extend the boundaries of his vision and style, creating a new visual experience. After being artistically influenced by living in New York City, Doug moved to the Pacific Northwest in the late 1990s residing with his wife and two daughters in Oregon, between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Join San Juan Island Cheese and special guest Mountain Lodge Farm this Friday, May 29th from 5:00pm-7:00pm as we taste and learn about their incredible goat cheeses. We will also be pairing each cheese with wine. Mountain Lodge Farm is a farmstead creamery located in the foothills of the Cascades, near Mt. Rainier. Their focus on a "taste of place" is evident in the lovely fresh complex taste of their cheeses.

This is an informal meet and greet with a special event menu.
